Ferries
regular trains | using the train | bullet trains | buses | ferries
Comfortable and affordable, ferries depart from Nagoya, Osaka and Kobe Ports for such destinations as Hokkaido, Shikoku, Kyushu and Okinawa. However, before you book with a ferry, check the airline prices. You can often get a cheaper price if you book a month in advance.

The long distance ferries are generally much larger than commuter ferries, and offer a range of facilities. Restaurants, snack and omiyage shops, bathing facilities, and hot water for tea and cup noodle can usually be found on board. Sleeping accomodations range from large mat rooms that sleep eight or more people to private, and fairly luxerious, first-class suites. If you are planning on driving or riding your bicycle at your destination, ferries can also accomodate your car or bicycle.
